Taal en communicatie

The ability to analyse and critically evaluate all kinds of texts is invaluable in all facets of personal, social and professional life. During the bachelor’s programme in Language and Communication you will get acquainted with theory and practice of linguistic usage. In order to communicate even better in an increasingly international and pluralist society, you will also learn a modern foreign language, such as French, Russian or Arabic.

Students of Language and Communication will learn how language is used when someone wants to convey information or wants to try and convince someone else. Using the acquired theories and research skills you can analyse and judge the use of language in for example advertisements, speeches or election debates.

During classes in arguing and debating you will be trained in argument- and debating techniques that will be of good use outside the classroom as well.
Intercultural communication, writing and rewriting, and philosophy of science are part of the curriculum as well. There are also plenty of opportunities for following elective courses from other programmes. The programme in Language and Communication has many contacts with businesses, publishing companies, newspaper editorial offices and research bureaus that offer places for work experience.

After successfully completing the bachelor’s programme you will receive the title Bachelor of Arts.
