Philosophy (research)

The Research programme in Philosophy familiarises students with one or more sub-areas of philosophy. Students acquire the skills to formulate, analyse and discuss philosophical problems and to formulate and present targeted research questions within a broader research plan.

Studying Philosophy at the University of Amsterdam

The University of Amsterdam's programme in Philosophy (research) is the most extensive of its kind in the Netherlands and has the largest student body. The programme covers a wide range of topics and perspectives, and has a strong international focus. Both Anglo-Saxon philosophy and Continental philosophy are studied. Students can put together a programme suited to their interests by choosing from the wide selection of courses offered by the Department of Philosophy.

Accreditation and degree

The quality of this programme has been positively assessed by the Accreditation Organisation of The Netherlands and Flanders (NVAO). This means that upon successful completion of the programme students will receive a legally accredited master's degree in Philosophy and the title Master of Arts(MA).
