Master’s Programme Urban and Regional Planning (Planologie)

Introduction

  • Metropolitan areas are the focal points of societal and economic changes that result from globalisation. How can metropolitan cities be competitive on a global scale, provide an inclusive urban culture and be sustainable at the same time?
  • Mobilitiy networks are the skeleton and the vasculature of metropolitan regions. How can urban planners contribute to developing effective, efficient and sustainable transport networks for our highly mobile society?
  • Integrated area development is a field in which planners pre-eminently can show their added value. Understanding real estate management is a pre-condition for playing a central role in the area development process.

The Urban and Regional Planning programme offers students a thorough understanding of advanced theories and methodologies of urban and regional planning, with a focus on urban and metropolitan areas. Core elements are spatial planning and policy formulation in metropolitan areas, the institutional aspects of spatial interventions and an international comparison of spatial planning traditions and metropolitan governance. Students also gain knowledge of relevant research methods to undertake planning research.

For students interested in this field of study, we also offer a two-year Research Master’s.
