System and Network Engineering (MSc)

Why choose System and Network Engineering?

This Master programme gives you the theoretical insight and practical tools you need for understanding, developing and maintaining complex IT systems and networks. How do you apply different software components within a complex architecture, so that you get an efficiently working system? How do you make a system that not only technicians, but everyone can use?

These are the kind of questions you ask yourself during this Master. Together with a experienced teaching staff and highly motivated fellow-students you look at the many software systems that exist and wonder how to get all these systems connected in a way that's practical, safe and scalable.

Two tracks: Networking and Forensics

The Master System and Network Engineering has two different tracks: Networking and Forensics. While the tracks start off together, they split after the first semester.

The first of two month-long research projects start in January and is followed by two different courses for each track. The Master is completed with an individual month-long research project in the chosen track.

What does System and Network Engineering offer you?

System and Network Engineering is the only academic Master in The Netherlands specifically designed for students with the need for specialized and in-depth knowledge of IT systems and networks. This Master programme is unique because of:

  • The focus on the patent OS3 principle, which combines Open Standard, Open Software and Open Security. Openness and sharing of knowledge is our key conviction. [link OS3?]
  • The possibility to focus on the area of your specific interest, Networking or Forensics
  • A top-notch teaching staff, with extensive experience in both the research and working field
  • A highly motivated, trained and international student population, selected by a fairly strict admission procedure
  • A strong social cohesion, based on the intensive programme and the large amount of time spend together in the uniquely designed SNE lab
  • Personal guidance by one programme manager during the entire year
  • The possibility to work with respected academic institutes and relevant organizations during your research projects
  • A field trip abroad to learn more about a specific project or institute (like CERN in Switzerland) and each other

Part time programme

It is possible to follow the Master System and Network Engineering part-time in two years. Various companies offer the possibility to follow our part-time programme during working hours. For more information on our part-time programme, please contact the programme manager.
