The Professional Master's programme in Preservation and Presentation of the Moving Image is organised by the Department of Media Studies of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Amsterdam.

Lecturers

Dr. Marie-Aude Baronian is Assistant Professor in the Department of Media Studies. Her specialisations include film aesthetics, archive theory, genocide studies and theory of representation, memory and testimony. 

Joost Bolten is Assistent Professor in the Department of Media Studies and director of the Educational Institute of Media Studies. Her specialisations and research include (the history of) video art, exhibition design and the (blurring) difference between art and documentation,  and  between artist, curator and critic.

Prof. Thomas Elsaesser  is the founder of the UvA's Professional Master in Preservation and Presentation of the Moving Image. Since June 2008 he retired from his teaching position, however he continues to be associated with the Department of Media and Culture as Professor Emeritus. His specialisations include film theory, film genre, film history and new media history.

Dr. Giovanna Fossati is Head Curator at EYE Film Institute Netherlands (formerly known as Nederlands Filmmuseum). Her specialisations and research include theory of film archiving, digital film technology and restoration, and colour in early cinema. She is author of the book From Grain to Pixel. The Archival Life of Film in Transition (Amsterdam: Amsterdam University Press, 2009).

Mieke Lauwers is Project Manager at the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision's Knowledge Centre. Her work as an editor of several books and articles and an online manual is aimed at disseminating knowledge in the field of audiovisual archiving. 

Mark-Paul Meyer is Senior Curator at EYE Film Institute Netherlands (formerly known as Nederlands Filmmuseum) and co-editor of the book Restoration of Motion Picture Film (Oxford: Butterworth-Heinemann, 2000). His specialisations and research include film restoration, silent cinema, experimental cinema and photography.

Dr. Julia Noordegraaf is Assistant Professor in the Department of Media Studies and Programme Director of the Professional Master in Preservation and Presentation of the Moving Image. Her specialisations include the history and theory of museum presentation and visual culture.

Dr. Tjeerd Schiphof is Assistant Professor in the Department of Media Studies. His specialisations include the legal and organizational aspects of art and culture, more in particular copyright and privacy issues.

Judith Tromp teaches and coordinates practical courses and internships film practice in the Department of Media Studies. Her specialization focuses on documentary filmmaking.

Dr. Marijke de Valck is Assistant Professor in the Department of Media Studies. Her specializations include Film Festivals, Film Distribution, and Television Studies.

Dr. Michael Wedel is Assistant Professor in the Department of Media Studies. His specialisations include Early Cinema, Sound Aesthetics, Media Technology & Culture, Genre Theory, and Film & Philosophy.
