Cultural Analysis

Educational background

I studied American culture and literature in Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey.

Why Cultural Analysis?

I am interested in cultural products and analysing them, this interest began in Turkey in my cultural studies classes at Bilkent University. I was highly motivated to further my studies in a different country, and found this research MA programme while searching the internet

About the programme

I am pleased with the variety of the courses. We can choose our electives from other MA programmes.

I enjoy the flexibility of the programme and the attitude of the professors, the content of the classes, and how multi-directional they are. In the beginning I was positively overwhelmed with the content of the courses, the readings and the discussions in class. However I quickly got used to the level of the courses and I have really improved my analytical and academic skills.

About the Universiteit van Amsterdam

I was impressed by the content of the programme and the way the programme was offered on the university website. It came across as very appealing and intelligent. The university meets the expectations I had. The international student guide we received in the beginning of the year was very useful. Furthermore I am satisfied with the facilities the university provides. I mostly use the philosophy library. The buildings are all over the city centre, but we can find our way.

I go to the drinks the International Student Networks organises every now and then. They were very welcoming in the introduction week. I had a great week.

About the city and the Netherlands

It is my first time in Europe. Amsterdam is a big flamboyant city. I was interested in the visual cultural scene here and its richness in terms of cultural products, museums. What attracts me is that the Dutch are tolerant and open to the foreigners. People are very nice and welcoming. They also are very scheduled. The social scene is very flamboyant and colourful and there are lots of cultural events going on. I really enjoy living here.

This Research MA programme is meant for students who

are interested in enhancing their analytical skills. You need to be open to new experiences and should be able to tolerate differences.

Tip for new students

Be ready to face this open and thrilling colourful cultural and academic scene.
