Musicology (MA)

Students who have completed the Bachelor's programme in Musicology at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) will have gained an in-depth knowledge of Western or World Music, acquired theoretical and practical skills and perhaps taken optional courses and a minor to familiarise themselves with other academic disciplines. The Master's programme in Musicology allows students to conduct further research in their chosen field of study, such as the music of India or the development of modern twentieth-century compositions.
Studying Musicology at the University of Amsterdam
The University of Amsterdam's Musicology programme covers a wide range of topics, including music of the world, contemporary expressions of music, western classical music of all periods, theory of music, cognition, cultural musicology, and pop and jazz. The focus is on intercultural music(ology).

Accreditation and degree
Musicology is a track of the Master's programme in Muziekwetenschap (Musicology in Dutch). The quality of this Master's programme has been positively assessed (accredited) by the Accreditation Organisation of The Netherlands and Flanders (NVAO). This means that upon successful completion of the programme students will receive a legally recognised Master's degree in Muziekwetenschap and the title Master of Arts (MA).
