Application Deadline Approaching- Email overload
Note to all applicants. The approaching of the deadline of May 1st generates a lot of (administrative) work at the Amsterdam Law School. Therefore, we are not able to answer all emails within 3 working days. However, if you have sent in your question on your application, or a notification of a malfunctioning of the application form, by email before or on May 1, we will allow you to apply for the LLM programme for coming academic year. Please, do not resend your emails, and, we do prefer email to telephone calls!

Educational background
Entry to the Master's programme depends on your academic background:
Academic background in law:
- An academic level comparable with a Dutch Bachelor of laws diploma.
- Basic knowledge of European law is required. The Amsterdam Law School offers a deficiency course in European Union Law. This course is provided by the Law School in September. Credits earned in this courses are not included in the required 60 ECTS credits.
- A positive assessment by the examination board is also required.
Please note some LLM programmes have extra entry requirements in addition to the general law programme admission requirements listed here. If so, these will be noted in the specific LLM's programme description.
English language proficiency
A good command of the English language is a prerequisite. The Amsterdam Law School accepts the following tests:
- TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) - minimum score 100
- Cambridge International Examinations - minimum level C
- IELTS (International English Language Testing System - minimum score 7
The Amsterdam Law School only accepts English language proficiency test results that are no more than one year old at the time of application.
Please note: Before choosing a specific test, please consult the Dutch immigration authorities in your country for a confirmation concerning the validity of the English language proficiency test. In the case of China, for example, only the IELTS test is valid for immigration purposes.
Tuition fees
Tuition fees vary according to nationality and programme. Please see the central link below on tuition fees for more detailed information regarding current costs, regulations, definitions and procedures.
The Amsterdam Law School does not assist in finding scholarships and does not have the possibility to waive any fees.

Application
The Amsterdam Law School has been experiencing some technical difficulties with the application form. If you have a problem with filling out the form, please send an email to als-fdr@uva.nl, we will advise you on how to apply.

The application form must be filled in online. Please prepare your answers, concerning your curriculum vitae (such as working experiences, international exposure and motivation) in a text document (for instance 'word'), before you begin to fill out the form. You must also have a digital copy of your passport, or for EU citizens, a copy of your EU ID card (the page which shows your photograph) ready to upload. The file format may be pdf, jpg or gif.
Applicants are required to pay an administrative fee of €125. The fee should be remitted to:

If you cannot submit your diploma and/or (copy of) English proficiency test before May 1st, please state this in your application form, together with the expected date you can submit these document(s).

Visa and residence permit

Please note that the ALS will only apply for a visa once all necessary documents for admittance to the Amsterdam Law School are present, and the student is admitted to the programme!
Please also note that students need to provide proof of being able to afford an additional € 12,000for the tuition fee on top of the IND requirements.
