Specific entry requirements

There is a selection procedure for entry into the Research Master's programme. The admission criteria are:

  • a Bachelor's or equivalent degree in Pedagogical Sciences, Educational Sciences, Developmental Psychology or a related field (e.g. Psychology, Sociology);
  • basic knowledge of research methods and applied statistics in social and behavioural science research;
  • an excellent academic record, with marks in the top of the class at graduation. Special importance is attached to academic results in research methods and statistics, research practicums and theses;
  • good writing skills, as reflected in written academic work (e.g. a paper or thesis);
  • sufficient active and passive proficiency in English, as reflected in a letter of motivation and the application interview. Non-native English speakers are required to take a test;
  • an active interest in research, as reflected in previous academic results, a letter of motivation and the application interview;
  • the ambition to become a researcher, as reflected in a letter of motivation and the application interview.

Students who wish to apply must submit an application file before 1 June. We recommend Non-European candidates to submit an application before 1 May. A detailed description of the application requirements and procedure can be found in the information brochure (see Curriculum).

Application Fee

All students (including EEA citizens) whose prior education has been in a country outside of the EEA have to pay an application fee of € 100. Students with a previous diploma from a university in an EU member or candidate member state (Turkey) are exempted from paying the application fee.

This fee is used for credential evaluation and will be refunded to students accepted into one of the MA programmes after arrival in the Netherlands.

You can transfer the application fee per bank draft. Make sure your name and the programme you are applying for are clearly stated. Please read these instructions carefully. It is recommended to do a routine check of bank drafts afterwards to see if your money ended up in the right account with the right name attached to it. We also recommend submitting a copy of the specific bank draft with your application file, or a hand-written message stating the name of the bank and specific department responsible for making the transfer.
