The research programme has a study load of 120 ECTS:

  • 90 ECTS courses and tutorials 
  • 30 ECTS thesis project

Master’s thesis

The thesis (20 ECTS) is a research report. The research topic is decided by you in consultation with your thesis supervisor.

Degree awarded

After successfully completing the Master’s programme you will be awarded with a Master’s degree in Archaeology and the title Master of Arts (MA).

Once you enrol at the UvA, you will also automatically be enrolled as an elective student at the VU University Amsterdam. You will receive a diploma from the UvA once all of the course components have been successfully completed. If you enrolled at the VU, the exact opposite applies. You will therefore receive one diploma from the university at which you originally enrolled.
