International and European Law (LLM)

Information for Dutch students can be found through the link below.

This Master's programme seeks to develop an understanding of the theory and practice of international and European Law. It consists of two components, international law and European law, which share a number of mandatory courses. There are also a number of optional courses. This structure allows for specialisation in either of the components, while taking into account their common foundation.

The teaching methods and evaluations focus on developing writing, analytical and communicative skills, as well as knowledge of Black Letter Law. To this end greater emphasis is placed on written and oral assignments than on traditional exams.

The faculty includes highly qualified international and European lawyers. Students are exposed to a wide range of international institutions and assisted in pursuing internships and other career opportunities during and after completion of the programme.

Tracks

The LLM programme in International and European Law offers four tracks:

  • European Union Law
  • European Competition Law and Regulation
  • International Trade and Investment Law
  • Public International Law

Further Research in Public International Law

If you have a special interest in research, the Amsterdam Law School also offers a Research Master: Public International Law (Research LLM)

This programme deals with some of the most important legal topics of our time. The two-year study gives students a knowledge and understanding of the fundamental principles of public international law as well as the skills to be able to conduct fundamental and applied research.
