Can the ALS help me with obtaining a visa?

Citizens from one of the European Union Member States, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Iceland, Norway,  USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, or Japan do not need an entry visa to enter the Netherlands. They only need to register with the foreign police in Amsterdam after arrival in The Netherlands.

All other students must apply for an entry visa (machtiging tot voorlopig verblijf) before coming to the Netherlands.

The Amsterdam Law School is able to apply for your entry visa through an acceleration procedure that has been instituted by the University of Amsterdam. This accelerated procedure requires three to four weeks.

In order to obtain your entry visa before the start of the programme, applicants must submit  the following documents to the Amsterdam Law School:

A) Your most up to date email-address + mail address.

B) Name of the town where the nearest Dutch embassy or consulate is located. This will  be  the location where you eventually will have to pick up your entry visa.

C) Copy or scan of your passport (all pages, including the blank ones).

D) Copy of health insurance if available.

E) Original NESO-certificate (for Chinese students only).

F) A financial bank statement.

More detailed information concerning the document requirements will be provided to the students after admission to the ALS.

The costs of the entry visa application are €250.

If you start the programme at the beginning of the academic year the deadline to submit documents is 15 June. If the above mentioned documents are not in our possession (original hard copy) before the set deadline the international office/AIRO cannot be held responsible for any delay in the visa application procedures.

Can the ALS help me with housing?

The university has signed agreements with housing corporation De Key, so that we can assist international students with obtaining a student room. However, the corporation offers a limited number of residences, and the Amsterdam Law School does not guarantee housing.

In case you want the ALS to assist you with finding a room, please indicate this on your application form, and we will contact you.
