EU/EEA and non-EU/EEA status

EU member states

EU/EEA students are students from the European Economic Area (the European Union plus Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein). Students from Switzerland have the same status as EU/EEA students. The EEA includes the following countries:

  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Bulgaria
  • Cyprus
  • Czech Republic
  • Denmark
  • Estonia
  • Finland
  • France
  • Germany
  • Greece
  • Hungary
  • Iceland
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • Latvia
  • Liechtenstein
  • Lithuania
  • Luxembourg
  • Malta
  • The Netherlands
  • Norway
  • Poland
  • Portugal
  • Rumania
  • Slovakia
  • Slovenia
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • United Kingdom

Non-EU/EEA

If you do not hold a passport from one of the countries listed above, then you are a non-EU/EEA student, and must pay international student tuition fees. The exception is students from Surinam, who pay the same tuition as Dutch students. Students from candidate EU member states Croatia, Macedonia, and Turkey pay the same tuition as other international students.
