Student Exchange
Exchange partners and agreements
If you wish to study at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) as an exchange student, you should contact your home university first.
The international office of your university can inform you about the available study abroad opportunities. They can tell you if and in which fields your university participates in Socrates/Erasmus (for European universities), and if there are any direct bilateral exchange agreements with the University of Amsterdam.
The University of Amsterdam has established exchange agreements with a number of universities from all over the world. There are the following agreements:
- Exchange agreements within the framework of the EU Erasmus programmes; these exist with over 200 universities worldwide
- Bilateral agreements between the UvA and universities in Australia, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Israel, Japan, Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, Russia, Singapore, Surinam, Turkey, and USA
- Exchange agreements between specific university faculties
Students from these universities pay their tuition fee to their home university and not the University of Amsterdam. For information on these agreements, students should contact either the Study Abroad Office at their home university, or the Office of International Student Affairs (BIS) of the UvA.
The Bilateral agreements link shows if there are direct exchange agreements between your university and the UvA. However, this list is not exhaustive for all fields of study, and other agreements may exist at the faculty level.
Faculty International Offices
Each UvA faculty has its own international office, which co-ordinates programme-specific student exchanges. For specific questions about exchange courses offered at the UvA, please refer to the course descriptions under Courses, where you will find contact details of the departmental International Offices.
