Route by public transport

From Central Station:
From the central railway station (Centraal Station) you can take tram number 4,9,16,24 or 25. Ask the tram driver for the stop called ‘Spui’. From there it is a five-minute walk to the Service & Information Centre at Binnengasthuisstraat 9 (See map below).

You can also take the metro (underground), get off at stop Stadhuis/Muziektheater. From there it is a five-minute walk as well.

From Schiphol Airport:

  • Trains and tram:
There are ATMs at the airport, as well as an exchange office. You can buy a one-way train ticket to Amsterdam Centraal Station for approx. €3,60 at one of the ticket vending machines of the airport's railway station. You can also buy train tickets at the ticket office counters but you will then be charged an additional €0.50.
You can buy bus or tram tickets from the driver, however it is cheaper and more convenient to get a  multiple-use OV-chipkaart. The OV-chipkaart is the new means of paying for public transport in the Netherlands. The size of a bank card and containing an invisible chip, the card can be loaded with credit in euros. Several different kinds are available, but a basic version that can topped up for regular use is sold at railway and metro stations, many newsagents and at supermarkets like Albert Heijn. For full details of the new system and all available types of card, visit www.ov-chipkaart.nl > UK or the OV-chipkaart pages at www.gvb.nl/english
  • For most of the day, trains run from Schiphol Airport to Centraal Station every 10 minutes. From midnight until 6.30 am trains run every hour. Make sure you take the train to Centraal Station and not to one of the other railway stations in Amsterdam.
  • By taxi:
Taxis in Amsterdam are rather expensive. It is best to follow the signs to the official taxi rank outside (rather than using the taxi services inside, which are usually more expensive). The trip to the Service & Information Centre will cost you approximately €40 and will take about half an hour (depending on the traffic). It is customary to give the driver a tip (a couple of euros).
